Tribute to Ty Lewis, his fight, his dedication & his mission.
NBC Washington (Hakeem Dermish, 2011).
Ty Lewis was a husband, father of two and mentor to many. He grew up the grandson of fighter pilot, son of a father who also served his country and later national defense. Ty grew up under the shadows of strong disciplined men, but also a compassionate mother and loving sister. He took their love and discipline, added his own strength, competitive spirit, and passion for winning to later instill in a group of young warriors he appropriately named Knights FC. Leading the charge of his football club at every game, in sickness or health, he taught his young students to never give up and to push ahead. His drive, determination, and leadership took Ty’s beloved Knights to their 2nd Virginia State Championship, all while battling stage 4 colon cancer. Ty helped to create the Ty Lewis Cancer Foundation. He knew firsthand the struggles individuals and families encounter in the fight against cancer. He wanted to help ease the burden and stress of others so they could focus on their treatment. NBC Washington sent Hakem Dermish, now with ESPN, to report on his determination “to never give up”. Here is the tribute they aired when we lost him. His warrior spirit lives on through his Knights, his love through his family, and his mission in all those who support the Ty Lewis Cancer Foundation and those still fighting. Keep fighting! |

A wonderful and touching tribute created by his boys & team parents, Ty loved so much. Many of which have gone on to play for their college teams & semi professional clubs.
